Responsible Travel
Recommending alternatives is itself a responsible travel choice. Here is what else we encourage.
Stay longer, travel slower
Two nights in five cities tires you and helps no one. Five nights in two cities lets you eat in neighbourhood restaurants, return to the bakery that won you over, and contribute more meaningfully to the local economy.
Train over short-haul flights
Where the rail network is strong (most of Western Europe), the train is often quicker door-to-door once airport time is included, and dramatically lower in emissions.
Sleep where residents live
Favour small, locally owned guesthouses and hotels over short-term rentals in pressured neighbourhoods. Where short-term rentals are restricted, respect the restriction.
Eat locally
Walk five minutes off the main square. The food is better, the price is lower, and the money stays in the neighbourhood.
Listen to fragile places
When residents of a destination say they are at capacity, take them seriously. We try to.
