Cobblestone lane of half-timbered houses in a small European town at golden hour
Independent travel journalism

Discover places beyond the obvious.

Insight Directory is a travel publication for people who'd rather skip the queue. We find quieter, more affordable, and more authentic alternatives to the world's most photographed destinations.

Our editorial mission

The famous places are still wonderful. They're also full.

A handful of cities, islands, and coastlines now absorb the bulk of European travel. They're beautiful and increasingly hard to enjoy. Meanwhile, the next town over, the second city of the same country, the smaller island one ferry away, often delivers the same experience with more breathing room and a fairer bill.

We don't claim these alternatives are better in some absolute sense. We claim they're different: quieter, more affordable, more authentic, and frequently more rewarding. Every guide is researched, written by people who have been there, and free of paid placement.

If you like Paris, we might point you to Lyon. If Santorini is on your list, we might suggest Milos or Folegandros. The question we keep asking is simple: if you like this famous place, what should you visit instead?
